Livelihoods Update: 20 October 2021

Madhya Pradesh government is going to implement Mukhyamantri Ration Aapke Dwar Yojana from next month. Under it, MP govt. will transport ration to villages without ration shops. This will help senior citizens and specially-abled people to receive ration near their homes.

Over 30 people have died in Uttarakhand due to rain-related incidents with over 5 still missing. The worst affected were the districts of Nainital, Almora, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar.

In Rajasthan, 9.48 lakh households have received tap water connections in the last two years; bringing the total number of rural households connected with tap water to 21.22 lakh households.

The Mercer CGS Global Pension Index, which ranks 43 pension systems in the world, has ranked India the 40th. Only 6% of the workforce in India is covered by pensions, and 90% of the workforce is unorganized so there are no pensions there.

The prices of tomatoes have risen sharply due to crop damage owing to unseasonal rains, and less availability and late availability of tomatoes in markets. Prices of the staple food have increased to Rs. 93 per kg in Kolkata, Rs. 60 per kg in Chennai, Rs. 59 per kg in Delhi and Rs. 53 per kg in Mumbai.
