Livelihoods Update: 29 November 2021

Hyderabad-based women’s NGO Shaheen Women’s Resource and Welfare Association won the 5th Martha Farrell Award – 2021. It got the award under the Best Organisation for Gender Equality category for its work towards women’s rights.

84% of women in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and 77% of women in Karnataka justified a husband hitting his wife. Himachal Pradesh had the lowest population of women (14.8%) justifying domestic violence: National Family Health Survey 5.

MoS for Skill Development Chandrasekhar launched a pilot project for the revival of Namda craft (rug made of sheep wool) of Kashmir. The pilot project will benefit 2,250 people in 30 Namda clusters in 6 districts. 

Assam government launched ‘The Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme 2021’. It is a microfinance loan waiver scheme that will benefit around 24 lakh women in Assam. The beneficiaries will get a one-time incentive ranging from Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 25,000.

Haryana is organizing Antyodaya Gram Uthan Melas or fairs at 272 zones in the state. It will facilitate youth from 1.5 Lakh families having annual income of less than Rs. 1 lakh to know about self-employment opportunities and welfare schemes.
