Livelihoods Update: 24 March 2022

Today (24th March) is World Tuberculosis Day. This time, the theme is ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’, to appeal to governments to invest more resources towards fighting TB. Indian government to launch a door-to-door TB screening initiative in vulnerable places to put a stop to TB by 2025.

Around 500 farmers of from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts in Andhra Pradesh earned revenue through carbon credits by taking up environment-friendly agroforestry practices. 

Indian Army constructs a large polyhouse in Seklu village, Poonch district, J & K, to help the villagers cultivate vegetables and fruits in all weathers. Since the area tends to have a lot of snow during winter, farmers struggle to earn a livelihood during the period.

Centre is planning to establish 5000 Skill Hubs across India. They will provide comprehensive skilling and vocational training to students, dropouts and unemployed people looking for employment in various skills.

Odisha had the lowest unemployment rate of 1.47% among states in the September December 2021 period. Haryana tops the unemployment list with an unemployment rate of 25.7%: CMIE.
