Livelihoods Update: 16 May 2022

A new job creation policy is in the works by Niti Aayog. It will facilitate the creation of employment opportunities as well as enhance female participation in the labour force, promote care economy, and boost gig economy. 

Amazon India has created 11.6 lakh direct and indirect jobs in India, facilitated $5 billion in exports, and digitized over 40 lakh MSMEs in India. It plans to increase exports from India to $20 billion by 2025. It aims to digitise one crore MSMEs. 

The Union Government has launched a pilot project ‘Rural Tribal Technical Training Program’ for the skilling of tribal youth. In the first phase, the project aims to train 250 beneficiaries from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Odisha.

Social Justice Ministry to inaugurate a Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for skill development, rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities (PWDs) at Shillong, Meghalaya tomorrow. It will facilitate resources and services required by PWDs in Meghalaya.

Around 57,000 people are affected by floods in 7 districts of Assam. 4,000 people are taking shelter at Government relief camps. Around 3 people have died in landslides in the state so far.
