Institutional births have increased from 79% to 89%; the figure is 87% in rural areas and 94% in urban areas. Around 77% of children in the age group of 12 to 23 months were fully immunized. The level of stunting among children under 5 years has declined to 36% from 38%: NFHS 5.
The unemployment rate increased to 7.83% from 7.60% in March. Urban employment rose quite sharply to 9.22% from 8.28% in March while the rural unemployment rate decreased to 7.18% from 7.29% last month: CMIE.
The Punjab Government has taken the decision to let cooperative societies in the state distribute 60% of urea and diammonium phosphate (DAP) and to let private merchants sell the remaining 40% for the kharif season. This decision was taken following an acute shortage of fertilizers in the state.
