Livelihoods Update: 28 July 2023

The Union Government’s total spending on publicity was Rs. 1179.16 crore in 2018-19 (the year of the Lok Sabha elections), Rs. 708.18 crore in 2019-20 and Rs. 408.46 crore in 2022-23.

Parliamentary Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, has criticised the Central Government’s reduction in allocation for MGNREGS, and that this will hinder work to be done under the scheme.

The chief economist of IMF said that India’s banning of exports of non-basmati rice would worsen the global food price inflation. He urged India to reverse the decision.

LPG connections have increased from 16.62 crore from April 2016 to 31.5 crore as on date: Government.

Telangana government has increased the pension amount for persons with disabilities (PWDs) from the existing Rs. 3016 to Rs. 4016—the highest in the country.
