Livelihoods Update 20 November 2024

The United Nations has appreciated the work done by India towards allocation of resources for the empowerment of women and girls.

 

Over 30 countries endorsed the COP29 Declaration on Reducing Methane from Organic Waste. Around 20% of anthropogenic methane emissions, which contributes a third to the warming of the planet, come from the waste sector, specifically organic waste.

 

Those living in the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) will live 7 years less than the people in the rest of India. Around 40% of the Indian population lives in this area.

 

Electronics industry in India is facing a skill gap of 10 million trained workers. Urgent need for specialised talent in communication electronics, consumer electronics, aerospace and defence electronics, semiconductor process engineering, and robotics.

 

152 million more people are facing hunger in 2023 compared to 2019 despite a bumper rise in food production; affordability, accessibility and inequality the prime culprits: FAO.
