Maha Kumbh is heading towards more than half of India taking dips at Prayagraj. Countering NGT data saying the water is not so safe, Padma Shri, scientist Dr Ajay Kumar Sonkar asserts that Ganga Water remains uncontaminated despite 570+ million dips. Dr Sonkar’s extensive laboratory tests show Ganga water is safe for bathing and is comparable to alkaline water in terms of purity. He has tested the samples of water from different ghats. According to him: There is no such bacterial growth. The water is alkaline. The Central Pollution Control Board says: the water is safe for bathing based on key parameters. The biochemical oxygen demand is consistently within 2.5 to 3.2 mg/l; PH levels remain safely between 6.5-8.5; dissolved oxygen levels are above 5 mg/l. Faecal coliform counts exceeding safe limits on certain days are brought down to within permissible limits.
It appears Maha Kumbh is unveiling spiritual tourism. What was generally for ‘elders’ is attracting young men and women. Improved infra, connectivity and digital access is doing the trick. Live-streaming; mobile bookings; curated hospitality experiences; meditation retreats; and eco-friendly accommodations are drawing people. This Maha Kumbh ‘experience’ may not end on Sivaratri, it may go on for the next one year. The traffic, crowds may be at a lower level. Saraswati River Pushkaralu are from 15-26 May. May be at Mana village near Badrinath; may be at Prayagraj; may be at Kaleswaram.
Social justice. For fair distribution of wealth, opportunities, privileges and meeting basic needs within a society. Includes breaking social mobility barriers; having safety nets; equitable economic justice. Equal rights, opportunities and treatment. A socially-just world. A movement towards social justice. Towards a world where all members have basic human rights and equal access to the benefits of the society. Fair distribution regardless of race, gender, ability and status. Social institutions that serve access to what is good for the person individually, in association with others.
Can we have social justice? Economic, ecological justice. Can every one of us get the essentials for a decent life? Adequate healthcare? Inclusion (and protection) of the visible and invisible disabled? No religious discrimination, with freedom to follow any religion, and right not to follow any religion? No ageism discrimination? No sexuality-based discrimination? No racism, no caste discrimination? No gender discrimination? Agency for women and marginalized. No poverty, economic inequity? Mandatory free education, with learning in a safe place, with no discrimination?
Can we influence institutions in favour of social justice? Can we keep technology away from discrimination? Can we have diversity, equity, and inclusion in our capital/resource endowment – natural, physical, social, human, financial, and spiritual capitals? Can we fight for social justice for all?
Yes, we can. If we coexist, flowing. Living in a fair, just flows. In N? samanyaayayoga for 7L.
