Blood Donation. Voluntary. Generally whole blood, may be about 450 ml. Sometimes separated donations of red blood cells; plasma; and platelets. Donated blood saves lives. Blood donation can help in keeping health in check; reduce certain health risks. Let us donate blood as frequently as we can.

Blood – blood cells suspended in blood plasma. Plasma – 55% of blood fluid – mostly water, 92%; contains proteins, glucose, mineral ions, and hormones. Blood cells – red blood cells (45% – haemoglobin that facilitates oxygen transport); white blood cells (0.7% – resists infections and parasites); platelets (instrumental in blood clotting). Blood supplies oxygen, nutrients; removes waste; carries out immunological functions, messenger functions, hydraulic functions; coagulates to stop bleeding; and regulates body temperature. About 7% of body weight is blood, and some 5 litres. Its pH is 7.35 to 7.45. Blood is mostly four blood groups, A, B, AB, and O. Rh positive or negative. Can we have healthy blood in us? Can we avoid ‘bad blood’?

Elder Abuse, mistreatment. Intentional senior abuse, abuse of older adults, and older people – women and men. Vulnerable old. 60+ adults. By inflicting physical, psychological, emotional, financial, sexual pain, neglect, exploitation, withdrawal of safety and security, abandonment, denial of rights, or abetment to self-neglect. Abuse includes harms by people known or related to the senior person – spouse, family member, friend, colleague, neighbour, service provider et al. Elder abuse can destroy an elderly person’s quality of life in terms of – declining functional abilities; Increased dependency, sense of helplessness, and stress; worsening psychological decline; premature mortality and morbidity; depression and dementia; malnutrition; bedsores; and death. The risk of death for elder abuse victims is 3x of non-victims. Elder abuse is largely hidden; tends to be committed in privacy. Elder abuse victims are often unwilling to report their abuse. For fear of loss of independence, fear of losing their only social support, and fear of being subject to future retaliation.

It is also important to recognize that false elder abuse accusations are possible.

Isn’t it time we become ‘natural’ – more; more intensely; more extensively – than what we are today. Can we internalize ‘natural’ and can we care and be in sync with all life, alife, and non-life?
