Krsnam Vande Jagadgurum.
Guru Purnima, Vyasa Purnima. Guru – darkness dispeller; ignorance dispeller. The day to celebrate Gurus, spiritual or otherwise, Guru Pujotsav. Vyasa’s birthday. Vyasa – Krsnadwaipayana – the author of Mahabharata, Bhagavadgita; the editor of four Vedas. The day of Buddha’s sermon, the day of the first bhikshu Sangha, at Sarnath. The day of Adi yogi’s transmission of yoga to saptarshis. The day of Mahavir adopting his first disciple.
Guru – mentor, guide, expert, or master. Mahaguru, grand master. Lokaguru, Viswaguru, Jagadguru. Heavy with knowledge, wisdom, realization. Ignorance dispeller. Spiritual or otherwise, Knowledge, Skills, Tools, Resources. More than a teacher; counsellor; experiential knowledge provider; exemplar; inspiration; guide helping in discovering the potential, potentialities. A revealer, or a facilitator in revealing our purpose, meaning in life, our supreme desire. A path pointer. A pilot. A tool and skill giver. A value instiller. An articulator of why, in addition to what, when, where, how. A questioner, curiosity driver. An image of creator, preserver, destroyer, supreme reality. Gururbrahma Gururvishnu Gururdevo maheswarah Gurussakshat parabrahma. Guru is Buddha, Dharma, Sangha. Fortunately we went through Gurukulam(s) and we had the blessings of such Gurus, and initiation by such Gurus.
Guru need not always be a human form. Self-guru is a possibility. A dream. A story. A song. A book. Any life form. Any alife form. A thought. The duration can also vary – a moment, to years and years. Guru guides us across the ocean of existence. One needs to continue to get ready to get Guru’s instruction. Right guru’s instruction. There would be many temptations, illusionary gurus, wrong gurus, to take us other way, away, or astray. A true guru is a master, grand master. We cannot miss, when we come across one. S/he initiates, transmits, guides, illuminates, debates and corrects us in the journey of knowledge and of self-realization. S/he takes us towards becoming gurus.
All cannot be Gurus, and to all. It is not possible. Only who has something, can give. Only a giver can be a Guru. They can give by a mere touch; a smile; a wish; a blessing. In a simple way. In a simple language. Simply out of love, out of pure love, for people at large. Many a time, Guru gives us ‘rebirth’. Our own soul is our Guru too.
Can we go eat mangoes, rather than count leaves, twigs, and mangoes, when we go to a Mango orchard? We can transmit our vibrations, when we are vibrant. Truly. Can we transfer, give/receive, true power within to without? Can we see love in all this, nothing else, for us, for the world? Can we completely self-surrender? Can we transcend acquisition and accumulation; competing in the marketplace; pleasing egos; or transcending our ego-linked passions? Can we become one with the deepest core of human nature, being, becoming one with the spirit, universe? Or at least tend towards. Can we keep working? For the sake of it. Can we seek freedom and be free to become our best version of ourselves?
Can we get ready, to have Guru manifest, to bless and point the vision(s), path(s) and means?
Yes, we can. If we coexist, flowing. In the ‘satsang’ continuums. In N? saakshaatkarayoga for 7L.
