International Criminal Justice. International law and institutions. Seeking accountability for the most serious international crimes, such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Complementing national legal systems. Generally, international law focuses on the action of states. Unlike general international law, international criminal law focuses on the individual criminal responsibility of those who commit these atrocities. Can we be on the right side of the law everywhere?
Ontology is the philosophical study of being, existence. A subdiscipline closely related to metaphysics. Focused on the most general features of reality. Being encompasses all of reality and every entity within it. Classes – categories, types of particulars and universals. Particulars – individuals are unique, non-repeatable entities. Universals are general, repeatable entities. Properties or relations describing the characteristics, qualities, features of things – essential and accidental properties. Relations link two or more entities – internal and external. Things have substances, and persist through changes, acquiring and/or losing properties. Concrete objects existing in space and time; abstract objects existing outside space and time. Substance is Comprehensive inventory of reality of these categories. Every entity belongs to exactly one category. May be existing objectively; existing only in the mind; or in total imagination. All grouped, collected together within a conceptual framework of key concepts and relationships.
States of affairs are complex entities with several entities as their components. If they link to reality, states of affairs are facts. Events link entities with time. Complex events, sequence of events, are processes. Entities affect each other. Concrete objects have causal powers to affect the other. And therefore they may undergo changes. An entity depends ontologically on another entity if the first entity cannot exist without the second entity. An entity is ontologically independent if it does not depend on anything else, meaning that it is fundamental and can exist on its own. Our beliefs may be our ontological commitments. Possibilities describe what can be; and necessities describe what the cases are. Possible world(s). Identities, synchronic and diachronic.
Natural ontology, Social ontology, Applied ontology. Structured frameworks to encode and store information about a limited domain of entities. Across categories and databases. Descriptive and prescriptive ontology; analytic and speculative. And meta-ontology takes us to underlying concepts, assumptions, and methods of ontology. It asks ‘what does it mean for something to exist’. It is focusing on meaning of being.
Ontology has its roots in Samkhya, and Vaisheshika; Taoism, interaction of of two basic forces, yin and yang; Socrates-Plato-Aristotle’s being and non-being, and forms; Ockham’s razor; Advaita Vedanta; Descartes’s dualism – mind and matter; Spinoza’s monism; Kant’s concepts of understanding; Hegel’s logic; Vivekananda’s unity of all existence; Aurobindo’s manifestation of divine consciousness; Husseri’s phenomenology; Sartre’s being and nothingness; Hartmann’s inanimate, biological, psychological and spiritual; Whitehead’s process ontology; Quine’s ontological commitment; and applied ontology.
We want to go further on this applied ontology. That is the basis for NF Ontology work, I guess. Structured Repository updated dynamically with data of the best practitioner peers and scientific study data analytics – text, dialogues, pictures, videos et al; Structured Learning from this repository and certification; Transformation nudging by daily e-engagement; Questions and Answers; Structured help to adapt ‘possibilities’ and ‘necessities, model adaptation, handholding; Troubleshooting, queries, conversations, custom support/help. For deepening, diversification, saturation, expansion, scaling-up, scaling-across. Can we go predictive, in due course? Can it help our marginal farmers? Can it help the peers to help them? And how are the peers trustable, credible? By demonstration models, for a variety of farming situations locally. By being there with them 24×7. By engaging with them physically and virtually every day. By explaining why, in addition to what, when, where and how. Can we have these peers? With models, skills, tools. Can we build their capacities for this? Can we build their Ontology skills, tools, abilities? Can we handover leadership to communities?
