Doctor’s day. 1 July. Birth and death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal. BC Roy played a key role in establishing Indian Medical Association, IMA, and various medical colleges and hospitals. Doctor’s day recognizes the contributions of doctors and healthcare professionals to society and acknowledges their dedication and hard work in the medical field. Doctors. General (medical) Practitioners, Specialists, Physicians, and Surgeons. Qualified to practice medicine and treat illnesses or injuries. Doctors promote, maintain, and restore health. Through diagnosis, prescription, treatment, performing procedure and preventive advice. In severe cases/situations, we go or we take the persons to doctors. Criticality is when in doubt. Can we seek professional medical help, rather than going for self-medication, self-treatment or suffer silently? Can we appreciate health and ill-health beyond physical too? Can we also take preventive health, public-community health seriously?
Can we increase the availability of doctors, qualified doctors for primary, secondary and tertiary medical care? Can we increase the primary and community health centres and sub-centres, fully equipped, with appropriate infra and medical fraternity? Can we offer free universal medical care? Can we increase health spending to 6% GDP? Can we reduce medical bills of people to near zero?
We pay many taxes including income tax – farm income is still out of its purview; and the most ubiquitous GST – Goods and Services Tax. Still a few items – petrol, diesel et al – are out of the purview of GST, even after eight years of GST. What could simplify taxation? Why do we need to file returns, repeatedly, in addition to paying taxes? Why do we have to be regulated so much? Why cannot our banks, payers, take tax, and file, rather than we doing filing, maintaining accounts and getting them audited? Can tax on cash while withdrawing work? Can we have more people, enterprises under composition tax? Can we just get rid of all other taxes, cesses, etc., except for payment for services to private or public service providers directly?
India is krshi-pradhan – enterprise country. India has most of its workforce self-employed, 80%. Not employees, servants, or public servants. Under the current GST dispensation, it is possible to go for composition scheme tax – for goods and for services – for professionals, individual enterprises, and small enterprises with 20-25 professionals on rolls, as required from time-to-time. If the business is limited to one state. Can this condition be lifted? Up to Rs.1.5 Crore/year for goods; Rs.75 lakh for services, or hybrid. Tax rate is 6%. Filing can be once in a quarter. Of course, this can be made once a year. Other ‘regulations’ for regulations’ sake can be obviated. The words ‘composition taxable person’ on every notice or signboard displayed prominently at their place of business, and on every bill of supply/invoice. Why do we need this? Can we reform ourselves to have a good simple tax? For more thriving small professionals.
Can we reform our taxation towards just 1-2 taxes, with no ‘return’ burden, auto-deduction mode?
Yes, we can. If we coexist, flowing. Being sensitive, amrt kaal oriented. In N? saralayoga for 7L.
