Post. Worldwide Post offices, 650,000 with 5.3 million staff, serve 1.4 billion + people. They also offer basic financial services. In India, called India Post now, there are 164,999 post offices – involved in delivering mail (post), remitting money by money orders, accepting deposits under Small Savings Schemes, providing life insurance coverage under Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) and providing retail services like bill collection, sale of forms, etc. India Post also maintains its declared 44 heritage buildings. It also helps in discharging services for citizens such as old age pension payments and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) wage disbursement. It has also taken up banking services as India Postal Bank. It is also doing parcel service. Other services include: Post Office Passport Seva Kendras; Aadhar services; Western Union remittances, etc.
The famous six-digit Postal Index Number (PIN, or PIN code) – first digit indicates the zone; first two digits indicate the sub-zone (or postal circle); first three digits indicate a sorting district; first four digits indicate a service route; last two digits indicate the delivery post office. All the post offices come under 19,101 PIN Codes. Now, India Post is proposing a 10 digit unique identification number to each and every address in India based on geo coordinates called DIGIPIN. Telegrams have been stopped. Letters are coming down with SMS, whatsApp, emails etc. The lifeline of communications is now evolving into a multiple services provider.
Mental health. More than absence of mental illness. It includes one’s ability to enjoy life and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. It is an individual’s capacity to feel, think, and act in ways to achieve a better quality of life while respecting personal, social, and cultural boundaries. One billion people suffered/suffer from a mental disorder. Anxiety and depression are the most common. Over 14 million attempt suicide every year currently; and 700,000/year commit suicide at present. Can we care to prevent it? Can we care to get treated, if there is a disorder, or go for diagnosis when in doubt?
Girl child. This year’s focus is ‘The girls I am, the change I lead’.
If we can slow the ageing process, we could delay or shorten the time we spend living with age-related illnesses. In other words, we might stay healthy for longer and only experience those diseases in the last few years of life, feeling younger and better overall. Staying connected to others could slow how fast we age. The research confirms: people with stronger social connections tend to show slower biological ageing and lower inflammation. People with higher levels of education, better income or belonging to certain ethnic groups show slower ageing and lower inflammation. Staying connected, supportive and involved – makes a difference.
Can we be more social, more generous, more kind? More humble, more gratitude? Can we do more teamwork, groupwork, groupthink? Can we travel, converse more? Can we be in the field more? Can we be more with the learning associates? Peer learners.
Yes, we can. If we coexist, flowing. Relating in multiple levels. In N? samavetatvayoga for 7L.
