Livelihoods Update: 23 April 2022

Apple Inc. has awarded a grant to the Applied Environmental Research Foundation (AERF) to protect a 2,400 ha mangrove in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. 

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) plans to turn 2,500 metric tons of sludge generated by sewage treatment plants (STPs) along River Ganga into usable products like manure, bricks, etc. and sell them.

Netherlands-based paint manufacturer Akzo Nobel signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) and the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) to train Kerala youth in construction painting. It will train 200 youth annually.

Karnataka Agriculture Minister BC Patil batted for farmers to adopt an integrated farming system to increase their income. He said that farmers can take up supplementary livelihoods like poultry, fisheries, and livestock as part of this system.

Home Minister Amit Shah distributed Rs. 67 crore to 22.6 lakh tribal tendu leaf collectors at the rate of Rs. 296 per collector in Madhya Pradesh; it is their remuneration for selling the leaves.
