As per the new act on CEC and ECs, the committee of PM, LOP and a minister nominated by PM – Amit Shah in this case – have met. Election Commission of India gets a new CEC, Gyanesh Kumar. Incidentally, Gyanesh was an existing EC. He replaced Rajiv Kumar, who retired as CEC. Vivek Joshi is also appointed as EC. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is already an existing EC. Gyanesh Kumar may last as CEC till 2029 January. However, he may not be there to see the next Lok Sabha, General Elections. Unless of course, if we go for One Nation One Election route and go for early elections.

Will he move on, will he persist, or will he contest the next election? When politicians think 75 is the limit, won’t it be right that the business entities do the same? One can become business mentor, or limit to only board, committee meetings? In Government, people retire 58/60/61/62. Judges, professors and doctors at 65, with three year extension possibility. That makes it 68. A few exceptional candidates go beyond this. Small, medium NGOs continue with old for long, may be because the payout can be less. In any case, 75 appears an absolute limit before which all of us need to go in Vaanaprasth. Available only for Boards, Committees, Workshops, etc. It can be 70 too.
After 70/75, we need to be more active, purposeful, but not in government, corporate, or politics. As an entrepreneur, volunteer, or mentor. Taking classes, having conversations, creating models, and examples. Can we find more ways, preparing for this? Can we be here sooner than 70?
