Livelihoods Update 15 April 2024

India lost 2.3 million hectares of tree cover between 2001 to 2023, which is a 6% decrease since 2000: Global Forest Watch Study.

 

India has signed long term deals with Brazil and Argentina, to import pulses, which will help keep domestic prices stable.

 

India has invoked a 21-year old emergency provision to order all gas based power generating stations to run their plants from 1st May to 30th June 2024.

 

India’s exports to Europe may be affected by the latest, Iran-Israel armed conflict, with air freight volume to Europe expected to rise by 10-15%.

 

Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, spoke with his Iranian counterpart, for the release of the 17 Indian crew members of Cargo Ship ‘MSC Aries’.
