We are seeing the end of Nitish era in Bihar. Two decade tenure. Nitish Kumar is moving from Bihar politics to the Centre. He filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. We have to see whether the new Chief Minister would come from BJP or JDU. This is going back on the election campaign promise just 4 months ago. Is BJP taking charge here? Is Nitish son becoming politically significant in Bihar?
Natural Farming, farming in harmony with nature, without synthetic chemicals, 365-day multi-layered multiple crop cover is slowly picking up momentum towards a viral global movement at local levels. NF reduces costs without foregoing yield, or land-water productivity. It increases farmers’, farmworkers’ and farmer entrepreneurs’ incomes, wellbeing and agency. It improves climate resilience and it copes with climate extreme events. It betters peoples’ health, soil health, and planet health. It cools. In AP, 30% (1.8 Million) farm families across its 28 districts, are on NF journey on their 0.8 Million hectares. 23 states have taken up the first step of seeding NF, with support from AP. Some other states, with support from civil society campaigns, are joining the movement. NF is also trickling to other countries too.
The need for research, evidence, knowledge exchange, and learning led to the emergence of an Academy – Indo-German Global Academy for Agro-ecology Research and Learning (IGGAARL), based in AP. It is an institute like no other and focuses on democratizing science. Farmer-centric, farmer-led research and learning landscapes drive the science behind NF, learning, knowledge dissemination and peer-extension through best practitioner champions. Farmer Scientists, Farmer Researchers, Farmer Mentors, NF Interns and Fellows, Young Research and Learning Fellows, Project Associates, and senior project teams are working with 5,000+ Farmer R&L landscapes through 20+ national and international organizational partnerships, internal projects, and other individual, team and partner studies across the entire production-consumption-value-chains, nutrition, socio-economics, extension, collectives, enterprises et al.
Is it time to seed a high-end institute for circular studies like IRMA for NF, ISB for NF, or a National/Global NF University? Maybe yes. May be useful. Then, what will be its scope, form, structure, team? How do we go about this? Can we get it going in the next 18-24 months? How does it link with Academy, RySS/APCNF, NMNF? With IRMA, ISB, IIMs, IITs, MANAGE, NAARM, IARI, ICAR, Universities? Schools? Flagship program – tech, management, leadership? Core team, Students, Faculty, Alumni, Projects, Partners, Governance, Resources, Corpus? Roadmap, blueprint? Owners?
