PM addressed the nation on Women’s Reservation Bill not getting cleared in Parliament. “….I seek forgiveness from all women of the country for failing to get the bill passed….. “. Let us note that 2023 women’s reservation law, which was notified on Thursday night, still stands. Opposition was not happy about linking women’s reservation and delimitation exercise. Are we happy?
Three decades of reservation in local governments, up to 50%. We still do not see significant improvements on gender indices. Agency on basics – bodies, time, food-nutrition-health, families, farms, resources, money, mobility, safety, markets et al – is a long way away from what we want to see, profess. Political parties have not increased women in their governance structures. We require to cede power to our less powered/empowered to find strength and dignity. Can we? Can India?
