Sleep, a state of reduced mental and physical activity. The body alternates between two distinct modes: rapid eye movement sleep (REM) and non-REM sleep. Sleep takes the body’s systems into anabolic state, and helps to restore the immune, nervous, skeletal, and muscular systems. Cleansing may be a core purpose of sleep. Naps are short periods of sleep, mostly during the day. A short siesta is very helpful. Overall, 6-8 hours a night is considered good sleep time for adults. It is much longer for children – 18 hours for infants to preschoolers – 12 hours; to school goers – 10 hours; to teenagers – 9 hours. The brain develops during sleep. Sleep influences language development. Sleeping longer infants have better vocabulary. During sleep, we tend to experience dreams. Sleeping at the same time every day; exercise every day; relaxing sleep environment; sleeping in a dark and clean room are helpful for better sleep. Side sleeping, left or right side sleeping, is the best, Next is to sleep on the back. A varied diet containing fresh fruits and vegetables, low saturated fat, and whole grains improves sleep quality.

Infants display a wide range of emotions without inhibition. They cry, laugh, and get angry freely. As we grow up, we hide and suppress our feelings. Serious, intense and continuous emotional suppression may give anxiety, depression, dipped brain performance. It may lead to poor social judgement; decreased wellbeing; memory loss; mental sharpness. When hidden emotions accumulate, the mind expends extra effort just to keep them suppressed. This added cognitive load can disrupt focus. A quieter heart may mean a busier head. When emotional tension persists over time, the body’s immune defences may weaken, making it easier for illnesses to take hold. Can we keep sharing ‘emotions’, can we practice mindfulness, journaling, writing diary, conversations, physical activities etc.? Can we be in ecosystems where we do not have to ‘suppress’, for good?

Can we practice 7R+? Can we live well – air, water, nutrition, sleep, entertainment, social, ecological, in harmony? Being useful, relevant, open.
